My great weekend

Wine, more wine, great views and cute little pittoresque French villages; I think that’s a good summary of last weekend. A great weekend!

Saturday morning I was meeting a big group of interns at the station of Geneva where we took the train to Satigny, a small village just outside the city. All wineries located in this area had opened their doors for the public since it was the yearly 'open day'. The sun was shining, the walks through the vineyards were really beautiful, again I met a lot of new people, and besides drinking wine from 1 till 6 pm, I also tried some French cheese! A memorable day...

Later that evening I went to bed pretty early, cause not only had the wine knocked me out completely, I also had to get up the next morning at 6am to go to La France!

Together with Liza (Porto Rico/USA) and Chandresh (India/USA) I went to Annecy; a typical French town. Very funny to make a day trip in Europe together with two Americans, you suddenly realize how different our two cultures are. They are simply not used to seeing any old buildings or having history around ("OW MY GOD! Have you seen that window? SO cute!") and our European habits ("These pieces of cheese are for free? I can just take a piece and try it?").

After walking around for 2 hours we went back to the market to get fresh fruits, cheese, bread, salami, olives, chocolate and... of course another bottle of wine! We found a nice park for our small picnic, with a lot of birds (which I - of course - had to feed out of my hand).

After our picnic we went all the way up a small hill, where a beautiful small church was located with an amazing view all over the lake.

Around 4 am we had walked through most of the streets for already three times, so it was time to go home. At least that was what we were hoping for, because the getting-up-at-6am-on-a-Sunday-morning-feeling started to kick in. But the guy at the train station told us (in French, but I was able to communicate with him, yay!) that the last, and also the next bus would only leave at 7 pm. So we decided to take a train already halfway direction Geneva to a small village named la Roche de Foron. The bus would stop here as well, and like this we could spend our last hours in another town.

It was a typical 'Sunday afternoon' town: not many persons on the streets, but the ones that you saw were hanging out at the cafes. Drinking wine, singing and playing guitar. Nice ambiance! And the town itself was surprisingly nice as well! There was a small ruin on top of a hill with an amazing view again. It was actually nice that the weather wasn't that great, because now the clouds were hanging halfway the mountains, and above them you saw all the snowy tops. I really felt far, far away from good old flat Holland!

After a kebab we got on the bus at 7 pm and 1 hour later we were in Geneva again. Great day, great weekend! And this coming week will also be fun, cause on Wednesday I got a 'Dutch drink' (for all Dutch working/living in Geneva) at the Dutch residence in Geneva, and on Thursday my first visitor from Holland will arrive!

Ciao!
